About Us
We are the training department of the Nodaway County Ambulance District. We are accredited by the Missouri Bureau of EMS which gives us the ability to offer Continuing Education Units. Both the State of Missouri and the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians require all EMS personnel take continuing education for license renewal. The number of CEU (continuing education unit)hours vary from level to level.
Medical practice across the board, but especially emergency medicine, changes very rapidly. The trend today is leading us to evidence-based practice. What is evidence-based practice? In the not so distant past our treatment protocols & procedures mostly came about from a “consensus” of medical expert’s opinions derived from their own practice. Although this was generally great advice and served us well for years we are beginning to see the importance of clinical research.
This research is giving us hard facts & numbers we can look at and definitively see that a procedure or medication will give our patients their best possible outcomes. The research also lets us alter or even delete those procedures that may not be providing the benefit we once believed they did. This is an ongoing and never ending evaluation throughout the medical community and hence the need for continuous training and up-dating of our personnel.
While we encourage our staff to attend conferences and trainings outside our department to gain different perspectives and ideas on patient care, we do offer many in-house classes to meet their CEU needs. We do not offer initial EMT or Paramedic courses but we do teach the following:
- CPR
- EVOC
- ACLS
- Continuing Education Units
Free to all licensed personnel of NCAD online CEUs are also available.
Our training Instructors are not full time educators. The majority of our Instructors work their regularly scheduled shifts on the streets of Nodaway County. We believe the best instructors can not only “talk the talk” but need to “walk the walk” as well. Any instruction they offer is above and beyond their true job……..caring for the citizens in our coverage area. All instructors are required to meet continuing education criteria as well.
