Mass Casualty Rescue Squad
MCRS
In the fall of 2015 a brand new squad was formed here at NCAD. The M.C.R.S. (Mass Casualty Response Squad). The district houses and maintains a Mass Casualty trailer that was obtained through Grants from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. This was allocated by the Missouri Region H Homeland Security Over-site Committee & approved by the State Homeland Security Advisory Board in 2006.
It is one of four trailers available to Region H Emergency Medical Services. Region H is comprised of the 15 northwest counties in Missouri. Andrew, Atchison, Buchanan, Caldwell, Clinton, Davies, DeKalb, Gentry, Grundy, Harrison, Holt, Livingston, Mercer, Nodaway and Worth.
It is designed to handle around 100 causalities, has equipment such as a 20’ X 20’ articulating shelter, generator, lighting, communications equipment and a bank of additional medical supplies. It can be towed directly to the scene of a disaster, or to a medical facility. This is a very valuable asset to have access to but an asset we hope to NEVER have to use!
Although we’ve had the trailer for some time now, we realized that during a disaster that our full time staff & rescue squads would be quickly overwhelmed with patient care, rescue operations and transports. We needed additional help to fully utilize the services this unit could provide. Thus we looked to a group of C.E.R.T Community Emergency Response Team members at NWMSU. It was decided to create a new squad of volunteers to train specifically on the use of this MCI Trailer. They will be trained to become an Emergency Medical Responder (First Responder), also in deploying and maintaining the trailer and its equipment. We finally think we have found a solution to better utilize this asset. Members of the MCRS come from many backgrounds, including some from the medical field, military and CERT members at NWMSU that is a mix of staff and students. Some are already serving as EMRs on their local rescue squad are members of MCRS as well.
There are many positions besides medical care available on the MCRS. If you would like to learn more or join MCRS, simply click the "join MCRS" button at the bottom of this page or talk with one of the current members listed below. Please put MCRS in the subject line.
