Nodaway County Ambulance District has 6 Rescue Squads that are disbursed throughout the county
These squads are staffed by volunteer Emergency Medical Responders (EMRs) from the communities they live and serve in. They are on call 24/7 365 days a year and respond to all types of medical emergencies, traumas, and they are active doing standbys at events in their local areas.
Each squad has it's own page here. Please visit the pages and learn about all of them!
Our EMRs are trained in-house here at NCAD, not only for their initial training, but we also hold classes to keep them up to date on new protocols & procedures and to keep their CPR current. Extrication and Emergency Vehicle Operators Course are also included in the training they receive at the start of the EMR service.
All of our EMRs get the following training when they first join our team:
A 52 hour EMR Course Healthcare Provider level CPR EVOC Extrication Training
To remain active with their squad they need to: Keep CPR current ( every 2 years)
Attend a EMR refresher course and drive EVOC at least once in a 5 year period
Who is a typical EMR?
There is no such thing as a typical EMR. We have people from all walks of life on our team. There are many different professions represented by squad members, most not medically related, but we do have some Nurses, EMTs, and Paramedics also. We have members from 18 to 70 year of age, some of them being with us for 25+ years! Many of our EMRs are members of their local Fire Departments as well.
